As a volunteer with Dumbiedykes Community Growers (link), I created a logo that reflects both the spirit and transformation of the area. The identity had to feel approachable, grassroots-driven, and quietly optimistic—a visual cue for positive change in a tightly-knit urban community.
The logo features a stylised flower emerging from the contours of an uppercase D—a stand in for Dumbiedykes. But more than just a monogram, the form subtly illustrates nature reclaiming the urban space. The organic leaf shapes curl and creep into the letterform, mirroring how greenery has begun to weave itself back into the neighbourhood through the community’s growing efforts.
The design is clean, rounded, and welcoming. I paired the symbol with a condensed sans-serif typeface to maintain legibility while reinforcing a friendly tone—ensuring the identity felt open and unpretentious, like the group itself.
In keeping with the group’s ethos of reuse and low-waste living, I also designed and produced laser-cut NFC business cards. These contactless cards are made from plywood and digitally embedded to reduce paper waste—a functional and durable alternative that aligns with the values of the project.
