I had the privilege of working alongside fellow Postgraduate Researchers Annie Gallagher (ECA Profile), Ethan Zhao (ECA Profile), Irene Aldazabal (ECA Profile), Jiayi Tian (ECA Profile), Maelisa Singer (ECA Profile), and Rui Ma (ECA Profile) in organising the Edinburgh College of Art PhD Showcase 2025. This event celebrated the work of 28 doctoral researchers across the Schools of Art, Design, Architecture, Music, and History of Art, and featured both a symposium and an exhibition. Thanks to the incredible range and depth of research presented — and the dedication of everyone involved — the showcase was a resounding success.

As ECA’s elected Postgraduate Research Representative, I had the chance to help steer the organisation of the showcase. I contributed to the planning and coordination of both the symposium (led by Annie and Maelisa) and the exhibition (led by Irene and Ethan). Most of my work focused on the administrative and promotional aspects — ensuring communication, publicity, and logistics ran smoothly.

I was also fortunate to present my own research poster in Sculpture Court, alongside the works of other doctoral students. Presenters at the showcase included (in alphabetical order):

To recognise the hard work of everyone involved, I also proposed that letters of commendation be issued to the organisers, presenters, and performers. This suggestion was supported by Prof. Ed Hollis, ECA Director of Postgraduate Research, whose commendations will formally acknowledge the dedication, creativity, and collaborative spirit that made the showcase possible.

Being part of the PhD Showcase was an incredibly rewarding experience — not only in seeing months of planning come to life, but in witnessing the depth and diversity of research across ECA. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who contributed, presented, and supported the event. The collaboration, care, and curiosity that defined this year’s showcase are what make our research community so inspiring, and I look forward to seeing it continue to grow in the years ahead.
